The construction labor force has added 282,000 new workers since June 2017.

The unemployment rate among construction workers rose to 6.4% in June 2018 after bottoming out in 2017 at 6.0%, well below the 20.6% peak reached in 2010. More than 80% of construction employers surveyed by AGC are experiencing increased difficulty in hiring the necessary labor to complete their projects in 2018.

As a follow up, AGC posed the following question to their constituents: “What has been your firm’s experience this year in filling the following types of hourly craft positions”. The results of the responses are illustrated below.
